Mills Promise Leadership Academy

The Mills Promise Leadership Academy is a summer bridge program designed for incoming first-year students entering Mills College through one of our Promise Partnerships with our local partner school districts in Oakland, Berkeley, Alameda, Richmond, and West Contra Costa County. The Mills Promise is a commitment to make a transformative Mills education affordable and accessible to more students in our local community.

The Mills Promise Leadership Academy promotes academic success, leadership development and a sense of community for scholar-activists who graduated from participating East Bay public school districts. Students in the Leadership Academy will come to Mills for an in-residence program for several days in the summer before they enroll. Students will take mini-courses with faculty and gain student success skills through seminars on time management, self-advocacy, and navigating college life. Students will build their leadership capacity through workshops on identity, community, and activism.

The Mills Promise Leadership Academy is free to all participants and will enhance the student’s sense of social belonging, build skills necessary for college success, and develop a new generation of Bay Area leaders.
